MHS Concert Band Invitational
March 23, 2022
On March 23, 2022, Middleton High School hosted its first-ever Band Large Group Assessment and Clinic. The event brought in several other schools across Wisconsin for the opportunity to receive grading and feedback from professionals across the country. Each group prepared several pieces and was given a clinic with Associate Director of Bands at West Virginia University, Dr. Cheldon Williams. Adjudicators who provided feedback included former Middleton High School music teacher and President-Elect of the Wisconsin Educators association Brad Schneider, Assistant Professor of Trumpet at UW-Madison Jean Laurenz, and Director of Bands at UW-Whitewater Dr. Glenn C. Hayes.
Middleton students also enjoyed additional clinic time with Dr. Williams two days before the event on the 23rd, where every band student received feedback and assistance across a multitude of musical subjects. Director of Bands Doug Brown stated, “It is an incredible opportunity to bring in clinicians such as Dr. Williams to create and provide meaningful musical experiences for our students and the greater Madison community.”

The MHS Concert Band Invitational is our major performance for the 3rd quarter and a culminating event for the music we are currently working on.
What
MHS is hosting a large group festival - think solo & ensemble or a marching band competition but for concert band. There will be three judges giving ratings and a superb guest clinician, Dr. Cheldon Williams. Dr. Williams will also be working with the bands on Monday and Tuesday of next week.
Who
All of the MHS bands will perform with bands from other schools around the state.
Times
Cardinal Band/Percussion: Come to the PAC after lunch, miss advisory/7th/ASR
Concert Band: Come to the PAC after block 5, miss 6th/Advisory/7th
Symphonic Winds: Eat early lunch (11:32 am - 12:02 pm) and then come to the PAC, miss Advisory/7th/ASR. *Ends at 5:30 pm*
Chamber Wind Ensemble: Come to the PAC at the beginning of the day, miss 5th/6th/Advisory *Bring a lunch*
Dress Code
Dress like it's a concert -- 10th-12th graders wear all black. 9th graders "dress nice."

Unfortunately, the event is closed to visitors this year, but we will be recording the performances.
