Large Group Festival

Riley Bahin, originally from Montana, is currently receiving his doctorate in Trombone Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Colorado - Boulder. He is the Principal trombonist of the Great Falls Symphony and member of the Flatiron Brass Quintet. Mr. Bahin additionally holds degrees from the University of Georgia (MM) and University of Michigan (BM). He has also performed with British Brass Bands, Colorado Symphony, American Trombone Workshop, and DCI's Phantom Regiment. Riley Bahin will be conducting a Trombone master class with all the trombonists in the program and doing a clinic with the Trombone Ensemble. Dr. Thomas Gamboa is currently the Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music at UW-Milwaukee Peck School for the Arts. He holds degrees from the University of California Los Angeles (BM), Northwestern University (MM), and the University of Michigan (PhD). Dr. Gamboa has also conducted the University of Cincinnati College - Conservatory of Music and the United States Air Force Band. He has toured with bands throughout the U.S. and internationally including Spain, Turkey, Qatar, Germany, and much more. He was also involved with the planning, execution, and editing of the Band of the Air Force Reserve's performance that was nominated for an Emmy in 2011. Dr. Thomas Gamboa will be conducting clinics with the Middleton Symphonic Winds and Middleton Chamber winds. Dr. Andrea E. Brown was appointed the Associate Director of Bands at the University of Maryland in 2018. In this position she conducts the University of Maryland Wind Ensemble, serves as the Director of Athletic Bands and teaches conducting. Brown is formerly a member of the conducting faculty at the University of Michigan where she served as the assistant director of bands and was a faculty sponsor of a College of Engineering Multidisciplinary Design Project team researching conducting pedagogy technology. Brown completed a DMA in instrumental conducting at UNC Greensboro where she was a student of John Locke and Kevin Geraldi. Brown is also the founder of “Women Rising to the Podium”- an online group of over 4700 members supporting and celebrating women band directors. Brown previously served on the brass and conducting instructional staff of the DCI World Champion Phantom Regiment (2004 – 2017) and now serves as a music judge for Drum Corps International. Dr. Brown was recently honored by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro as the recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award. Dr. Andrea Brown will be conducting clinics with all four curricular band ensembles leading up to Middleton's Large Group Festival, and will serve as a Clinician on the day of the event. Alexander Gonzalez is the Assistant Director of Bands at the University of Wisconsin–Madison where he conducts the Tuesday Night University Band, assists the University of Wisconsin Marching Band, directs the Men’s Hockey Band, and teaches courses in conducting. Prior to his appointment at UW-Madison, Alexander previously taught conducting at Capital University Conservatory of Music (OH), served as Music Director of the Professional School Orchestra (OH), served as the director of the Middleton Symphony Orchestra’s Wind Octet (WI), taught music history at Hillsborough Community College (FL), and was a public-school educator in Florida and Colorado where he taught an array of courses at the middle and high school levels. Dr. Gonzalez received a Doctor of Musical Arts in Conducting from The Ohio State University, where he studied with Dr. Russel Mikkelson. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Florida and a Masters in Wind Conducting from the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
