Community Engagement and Performances

In August, the teachers, with the help of the boosters, held a wonderful "Welcome Night" for band students and their families.

The marching band participated in the local Good Neighbor Festival parade and home football games, showcasing their talent and spirit with the show theme, "Into the Night."

The Marching Band marched in the MHS Homecoming Parade.

School concert performances included four Concert bands, two jazz bands featuring four jazz ensembles (150 students), a Percussion Concert, and various competition performances, such as the Solo & Ensemble festival, Essentially Ellington Jass Festival, jazz competitions in NYC and Philadelphia, the Percussive Arts Society International Competition, and three marching band competitions.

On November 30, Jazz students performed under the direction of Mr. Brown at Middleton Jewelers.

The Pep Band performed at MHS Men's and Women's Basketball games from December 2023 through February 2024.

The 7 O'Clock Jazz Band performed "The Nutcracker - Two Ways" with the MHS Symphony Orchestra, Isthmus Brass, and professional orchestra musicians on December 19, 2023.

Jazz Tracs 2024 highlighted the jazz band students' fantastic music and year-long dedication in April.

In May, all band students will perform at the Spring Concerts!

Percussion students perform at the Percussion concert on Friday, May 17.
Outstanding Achievements and Competitions

In October 2023, the marching band earned 4th place in the state, with the color guard taking 1st place. At the WSMA State Marching Band Championship at UW-Whitewater!

The Chamber Winds Ensemble received prestigious recognition from the Wisconsin Association of School Boards. Learn More

The Chamber Winds were recognized and invited to perform at the Percy Grainger Festival in Chicago, Illinois. Learn More

Advanced Percussion Ensemble students attended PASIC in November 2023. Middleton High School Ensemble won 4th and 7th place. Ten students placed in competitions for Timpany, Snare Drum, and Keyboard.

Jazz Orchestra students participated in the UW-Madison Jazz Invitational.

The ChamberWind Ensemble was selected to perform at the Wisconsin StaMte Education Convention.

MHS Bands hosted the Large Group Festival.
Music Education and Advocacy

Middleton High School Band held its own Solo and ensemble event, with professional musicians and educators providing instruction and feedback to students.

Mr. Brown was awarded a $2500 grant from the MCPASD Education Foundation to pay for transportation to the prestigious Percy Grainger Festival in Chicago, Illinois.

Mr. Rothacker & Mr. Ver Voort were Kohl Fellowship Nominees!

Mr. Brown was recognized as the MHS National Honor Society 2023 Teacher of Excellence 0 Elective ARea award.

Mr. Brown was honored with a Yamaha "40 under 40" Music Educators Advocacy Award!

On January 4, 2024, Mr. Brown and Mr. Zach Galin will host a college chat to discuss "How Music Plays a Role in College Admissions for Music & Non-Music Majors."
Guest Artist Collaborations and Cultural Experiences

The Percussion Ensemble will perform on a Percussion Tour to UW Madison and Millikin University. They commissioned a piece from Michael Burritt and will feature guest artists Pax Duo.

Hundreds of band students traveled to New Orleans to learn and perform!

Professor Scott Teeple joined Chamber Winds for a clinic. Professor Teeple is the Director of Band, Professor of Music, and Chair of Conducting at UW-Madison.

Prestigious conductor H. Robert Reynolds met with students virtually to transcribe one of the Chamber Winds' pieces.
