April 17, 2019 - Important Band Updates

Hello band parents and students, As we near the end of the year, here are some reminders about all the cool things happening these last few weeks: 1.  Marching Band Contact Form - Remember that all future marching band students must  fill out this form with contact information to receive marching band updates.  (Some of you forgot to do so when you registered.)  2.  Summer Camp Scholarships - Each year, BOPA provides an opportunity for students to apply for scholarships to summer music programs such as Birch Creek, Shell Lake, UW-Madison Summer Music Clinic.  Scholarships are awarded based on band participation, financial need, and the ability of the student to bring back their learning to share with others.  Applications are available in hard copy only and can be picked up in the band room.   They are due by April 23rd. 3.  State Solo/Ensemble - UW-Platteville. April 27th.  Accompanist schedules were emailed earlier.  The schedule of events just went live at  https://wsmamusic.org/festivals/state/platteville/.  Schedule changes are discouraged and are limited to trades within the same site. 4.  Jazz Tracs 2019 - Don't forget to buy your tickets for Jazz Tracs 2019 featuring Wayne Bergeron, first call lead trumpet in LA and featured on movie soundtracks from The Incredibles to Frozen.  Tickets are $10 each and available  here. 5.  Alumni Form - Know any MHS Band/Orchestra alumni?  (Or maybe you are one.)  Have them contribute to the MHS BOPA alumni page - it's easy and only takes about five minutes. 6.  Spring Supper - Congratulations to the students on wonderful performances at Spring Supper, and a huge thank you to all the parents who helped make it a rousing success.  The money raised allows BOPA to continue funding incredible guest artists (like the Akropolis Quintet in January and upcoming appearances by Wayne Bergeron with the jazz bands and Trans-Siberian Orchestra's Mark Wood with the orchestra), as well as special equipment, student scholarships, and numerous other experiences throughout the year. 7.  Remaining Calendar Dates  -- May 7th: Spring Concert (for Block 1, Block 6, Block 7)  -- May 10th: Orchestra Concert with Mark Wood (Trans-Siberian Orchestra)  -- May 17th: Jazz Tracs featuring Wayne Bergeron (tickets available  here)  -- May 20th: Music Department Awards Night (before concert) -- May 20th: Spring Concert (for Block 2, Block 3, Block 7)  -- May 27th:  Memorial Day Ceremonies & Parade --   Michael Ver Voort Music Teacher & Band Director  Middleton High School  (608) 829-9680 mvervoort@mcpasd.k12.wi.us
