5. Parents—We Need You!
Behind every great Marching Band, are great Marching Band Parents.
We need all parents and guardians to come alongside our wonderful MHS Marching Band students and assist in a number of roles. Please consider what role(s) you are able to participate in.
A. Marching Band Liaison: If you enjoy organization and enjoy working with high school students, then Marching Band Liaison is for you. We are looking for a parent who would be a leader in the following ways:
Oversee the Parent Pit Crew
Encourage band members. (calm any jitters before performances)
Answer any questions if the band directors and section leaders are busy, etc.
If this sounds like something up your alley, please contact Mr. Ver Voort, Mr. Brown, or myself.
B. Pit Crew: We need 20-30 men and women to assist with equipment set up, and tear down at football games and competitions. (percussion instruments, sound equipment, etc.). We will teach you all you need to know.
1. This will involve a minimum commitment of 4 dates. The dates are listed on the sign up. Sign-ups are open now via the website. Please sign up as soon as possible.
2. Thanks to the parents who have already signed up.
C. Assist in uniform distribution: See website sign-up.
D. Assist with MB Potluck– August 24:
1. Marching Band is a community, and that community will be very hungry from all those hours of practice in the WI elements.
2. Sign-ups are open now via the website.
E. The Good Neighbor Festival:Here is a note from the Good Neighbor Festival co-chair. Good Neighbor Festival Volunteer Sign Upis located on the Marching Band website.
Dear BOPA families,
Marching band season is fast approaching, and so is the Good Neighbor Festival parade!
We are expecting another huge crowd this year and need folks to help manage the parade route. Volunteers would hand out programs and monitor intersections alongside Middleton police and their volunteers.
You would also get a front-row view from which to snap photos or just enjoy the marching Cardinals. We would need you on Sunday, August 26 from about10:30 am until the end of the parade – about 2:00pm -- giving you plenty of time to visit the festival grounds or help put uniforms away.
Can we count on you for help with this hometown tradition? Please contact parade co-chair,
Stephanie Mueller (steph.moen.mueller@gmail.com, or 239-1421).
Thank you!
6. Band Camp After Party:
Will take place at KEVA after the band potluck. Come enjoy a night of fun and
games from 7:00 pm -10 pm. 8312 Forsythia St, Middleton, WI
Students will need to print and sign a waiver: http://kevasports.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/10/Classes-Waiver.pdf
7. Coming Soon: A Band T-shirt
Spiritwear T-shirts will soon be available for purchase. The T-shirts are a great
way for parents and family to support our band program. Band students will
vote on 4 logos. The winning logo will be chosen as the band logo for
the year. The T-shirt is a great way to show MHS Marching Band pride. This shirt
is in addition to the students’ “show shirt”.
8. Marching Band Poster
SENIORS!! This is it! Your last year in Marching Band.
You’ve seen the athletic posters around MHS. Now, not to be outdone, Marching
Band Seniors will be featured on a poster (with an inset of the entire MHS
Marching Band) for the 2018-2019 season. Let’s start a new Marching Band
tradition.
Details will be forthcoming to all marching band members with respect to
sponsorship, photo location, and poster distribution.
9. Band Parent Night
Band Parent night this year is coming up right away on September 7th. On this
night, all band parents get in free to Breitenbach Stadium for the football game.
At halftime, we will ask all band parents to stand and be recognized, and we will
also read the names of seniors and their parents.
10. A Note to Freshman Parents from Mr. Ver Voort and Mr. Brown
Two days before band camp, your rookie member will probably decide they don’t
want to do marching band after all. This is normal—just encourage them and
shove ‘em out the door. We promise to take good care of them.
Marching Band is an experience like no other. Know that you’re about to become part of something great—something filled with pride, precision, and prestige!
Thanks for reading everyone. We can’t wait! See you at camp!
Sincerely,
Lisa Downs
