The MHS Jazz Bands are proud to present the 2020 MHS Jazz Cabaret.
Please join us for dinner as you listen to our musicians play some of the most beloved tunes from the great jazz masters - Duke Ellington, Sonny Rollins, Miles Davis, and others.
The MHS Jazz Cabaret gives our students an exhilarating opportunity to perform jazz standards for a live audience in a traditional jazz club atmosphere.
It's a night you won't want to miss!
The 20th Annual Concerto-Aria Competition is at 6 pm on January 7, 2020, in the PAC.
Students will be vying for the chance to perform a major solo with the Symphony Black Orchestra at the Eine Kleine Kindermusik performance for 900 2nd & 3rd graders on March 11 & the March Concerto Showcase Concert on March 12.
All interested students are invited to audition.
Students are allowed to participate in a ballet entry: either a choreographed work from an actual ballet or a choreographed section of standard orchestral work. Applications are available after the Thanksgiving break.
Honorable Mention musicians are identified and perform during Fine Arts Week.
This is a great experience, a practice audition for college or another competition, professional judges with free feedback, and the chance to solo!
Applications are available from any MHS music teacher and are due before winter break.
March 13 - 15, the Band, Orchestra & Choir students are invited to travel to the Twin Cities. Please fill out this Google Form to enroll.
WMTV-Ch. 15 filmed the MHS Symphony Orchestra along with members of the Chamber Winds for the Sounds of the Season one-hour show that will air on Dec. 24. Three sections from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite were recorded.
6. Spring Supper Volunteers
The annual Spring Supper fundraiser is set for Saturday, April 4, 2020.
Please look for emails to volunteer with planning & organizing, serving, set- up/tear-down, and obtaining silent auction items.
Contact Kim Mackey, Committee Chair, at MHSBOPAspringsupper@gmail.com if you are interested in volunteering or donating an item for the silent auction.
8. Honors Auditions
23 band students, 16 orchestra students, 3 jazz students and 5 vocal students will be auditioning for the State Honors Ensemble audtions on February 1, 2020 at Middleton High School.
Best wishes to the student instrumentalists who are in preparation for their auditions for the Wisconsin State Honors Ensembles. Middleton High School is one of the host-sites for the auditions, which take place on Saturday, February 1, 2020. This is one of the most extensive auditions in which high school students can participate. Students perform an excerpt from a solo, a state-wide selected etude for their instrument, scales, and sight reading.
You can contribute to BOPA just by shopping online at Amazon! Go to smile.amazon.com and search for “Middleton High School Band And Orchestra Parents Association.” A percentage of your purchases will be donated to BOPA!
10. Solo & Ensemble
Mark your calendars! The WSMA District Solo & Ensemble Festival is Saturday, February 22 at MHS. Joining us will be Glacier Creek and Kromrey Middle Schools.
Students have already started the Solo and Ensemble unit in the classroom!
An accompanist is hired for every soloist--The pianists will rehearse with each soloist twice before the performance, typically during or after the school day. This is one of the major expenses that MHS BOPA raises money for, as well as the Solo/Ensemble “coaches” who are hired to help rehearse the small ensembles during regular class rehearsals.
We will be needing the able assistance of parents and students to make this event run smoothly, so be on the lookout for a volunteer sign up in the new year.
